Translation Equipment Services

Anywhere in the world, our Interpreting Equipment solutions are tailored to your event, ranging from simple, quite affordable configurations to complex relay configurations allowing an interpreted message to be re-interpreted to a third language. Combined with our world-class, professionally trained interpreters and Project Managers, Capital Linguists is your full-service conference services vendor. The essential piece of interpreting equipment is a wireless headset and receiver for each participant to listen in his or her own language. Next, microphones and transmitters facilitate the bidirectional transmission of the on-stage speakers’ voices and the interpreters’ voices.

In a casual setting, the interpreter may pick up the message to be interpreted with his or her own ears while sitting close to the people speaking! But in a formal conference or meeting setting, the conference venue’s audiovisual equipment should be connected with the interpreting equipment to allow for seamless audio transmission. It’s not enough for the interpreters to simply “hear” the source language, but rather they must have an audio feed directly into their ears, since they will be speaking and listening at the same time.

Interpreting booths both insulate the interpreters sound from nearby audience members and create a quiet setting in which the interpreters can concentrate on what is being said on the floor. There are tabletop booths and full booths. Tabletop booths are a less expensive option and are easier to move around, while the full booths are the gold standard for important conferences.

Portable or Stationary Interpretation Equipment

Portable Interpreting Systems

Our “Tour Guide” set is completely mobile and scalable allowing us to provide service at virtually any location in the world. It includes a headset and receiver for each participant to listen in his or her own language, plus the microphones and portable transmitters that send the interpreters’ voices to the headsets.

Stationary Interpreting Equipment

For heavy-duty conference use, the stationary equipment centers around full booths, a transmitter, a mixer, interpreter consoles and interpreter headsets, along with wireless headsets and receivers for the audience members. These systems become more complex as you add languages/interpreters, and are charged by the day. Capital Linguists manages conferences of virtually any size, from two to thirty-five working languages.

The Interpretation Technicians – Poorly Set Up Equipment is Worse Than No Equipment

We always send talented, courteous, and well-trained interpreting equipment technicians onsite to setup, monitor, and breakdown the equipment. Your peace of mind is assured when our expert technicians set up all the equipment, including booths, transmitters, CCUs, infrared radiators, mixers, interpreter consoles and headsets, PA systems, and microphones, and then monitor, anticipate, and quickly tackle any issues that may arise.

The techs set up and test the equipment at the venue, usually on the day before the event starts. In a very busy venue, such as a hotel or convention center, the tech may have to arrange a time to set up the interpreting equipment. In an ideal situation, the technicians and audiovisual crews should have access to the venue well in advance.

In an ideal situation, the technicians and audiovisual crews should have access to the venue well in advance. The technicians take care of shipping, delivering, and setting up of the interpreting equipment.

The AV capability of the venue is taken into account in advance to ensure compatibility with the interpreting equipment. The technicians and onsite crew are responsible for collecting headsets and other equipment after the event. Our technicians can also make recordings of the interpretation for clients. Transcription and translation are also available for these recordings.

What Translation Equipment Do I need?

he basic conferencing equipment is always needed, but the specific technology you need will depend on the size of the group, the size of the venue, the number of people who will listen to the interpreting, the portability desired, and your budget.

Some basic kinds of equipment are:

  • Headsets and receivers for conference participants to listen in any of the languages offered.
  • Microphones for the speakers and participants on-stage.
  • A PA system that transmits the stage audio throughout the venue.
  • Video monitors for interpreters to see the speakers if they don’t have a clear view of the stage.
  • Infrared systems and radio frequency equipment
  • Soundproof booths for simultaneous interpreters.
  • Transmitters, mixers, CCUs, infrared radiators.

Headsets and Receivers

Audience Headset/Receivers come in the form of earbuds or over-the-ear headsets that connect to the receivers. They can be disposable earbuds, or state of the art, noise-canceling headphones. The earbuds are for one-time use, especially during tours. Audience over-ear headsets include a pocket receiver and must be returned after the event. The headset allows the audience members to listen in any of the languages offered at the meeting. Interpreters are provided with interpreter headsets, which may include microphones, or which can be used with the microphones on the interpreter consoles.

Transmitter

The fixed transmitter sends the signal from the interpreters to the audience headsets.

Receivers
The receivers pick up the signals sent from the transmitter and they can handle up to 32 channels for multi-language events. Audience members and participants can listen in the language of their choice.

Microphones

For a large conference, you could select from many types of microphones, such as tabletop mics, gooseneck mics, handheld mics, and lavalier mics.

Two Kinds of Booth: Free Standing or Table Top

The interpreting booth is an essential piece of equipment, not just to prevent the noisy work of interpreting from entering the conference space, but to protect the exquisite concentration of the interpreters.

Fully-Enclosed Booth

Portable, soundproof simultaneous interpretation booths have four walls, a ceiling, floor and ventilation, and are virtually sound-proof. The booths need to be soundproof to prevent distracting sounds from entering or exiting the interpreters’ space.

Tabletop Booth

When there is limited venue space or limited time for set up, the tabletop booth is called for. Open at the back, the tabletop booth has walls on the front, top, and sides only. The tabletop booth is lighter to ship and assembles relatively quickly. Often called simultaneous interpretation equipment, simultaneous translation equipment, or conference interpreting equipment, we have a large selection to choose from, including any kind of audiovisual equipment or conference audio equipment. A simultaneous interpreter is used for intensive one-to-one conversations where the feel of a smooth conversation is desired.  A good interpreter makes you feel as if you are really getting to know your foreign language partner.  A skilled simultaneous interpreter seems to disappear as you have a lively discussion with someone with whom you could normally only exchange smiles and handshakes.
