There would be scarcely anyone around the world who, unless he or she has been living under a rock, would not have heard about Los Angeles. That might be a bit of an exaggeration, but surely Los Angeles is one of the world’s premier cities. There is much to recommend to the world about the city, also known as L.A.-the least of which is the fact that it is home to Hollywood, the de-facto movie making headquarters of the world.
The real big deal, however, is that it is a major center of economic and cultural activity within the United States, with its $1.044 trillion economy, making the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area the third largest in the world after the Tokyo Metropolitan and New York Metropolitan Areas.
One can get a sense of the scale of the frenetic economic activity that goes on there by the huge demand for document translations services and translation companies that exists in the area. There is no doubt about the fact that the world loves L.A., as evidenced by its rich ethnic diversity on account of people from different parts of the world making it their home. As a matter of fact, it has more Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Hispanic, and Native American people than any other city in the U.S. No wonder there is no dearth of Chinese interpreters and Japanese interpreters in the city!
Not only is Los Angeles the second most populous city in the United States after New York City, but it is also extremely picturesque located as it is in a basin between the Pacific Ocean and tall mountains. That it has always been a global city is evident in the sheer number of global events that have been staged here- the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympic Games, some important games of the 1994 FIFA Men’s Soccer World Cup, as well as the 1999 FIFA Women’s Soccer World Cup.
Global trade is a very integral part of the city’s economy and that is evident in the fact that Chinese translation services, Korean translations services, and phone interpreting services are much sought after in L.A. Another global industry that has a marked presence here is of course entertainment. The city is a major international movie, television, video game, and music production hub and this can be seen from its large expat presence.
There are naturally a fair number of simultaneous interpretation services and translation equipment companies present in the city to cater to their needs. You can also easily hire interpreting equipment if you ever need to use it. This is the thing about L.A. It usually occupies the top spot in most things. From the best private museum in the world in the shape of the Getty Museum to the largest number of energy star buildings anywhere in the world, and from the largest number of freelance workers in the country to the most TV stations, L.A. has it all.
Despite being such a huge urban sprawl, L.A. is the kind of city where you don’t have to go very far to be among the mountains, thanks to the presence of the lovely Santa Monica mountains, within the city limits. No wonder, many well-heeled celebrities have their homes there, as do many regular folks. There is something about the very air of Los Angles that makes the place so special and attracts talented people to come and make the most of the opportunities that L.A. offers.
Los Angeles is probably the creative hub of the world, what with the city teeming with writers, movie directors, musicians, and every kind of artist. Maybe it is the diversity of the landscape that inspires them- the fact that the great outdoors encompasses the beach, the desert, and an even a mountain just a convenient distance away. Which other great city of the world can boast of all of that?
Then there are the little things like the innumerable restaurants and food trucks spanning cuisines and price that you can spend a very very long time checking out. You could hold any kind of a job-an actor or a freelance technology worker and you would be right at home in this extremely eclectic and vibrant city.
To top it all, the place has great weather. What’s more, if you are the kind who loves celebrities, your chances of running into them are reasonably high, considering that most of them call L.A. home. Quite honestly, what’s there to not like about L.A.? What’s truly great about L.A. is the fact that it is different things to different people. Its eclectic population is free to choose the kind of work it wants to do, hang out with whomever they are comfortable with, and enjoy the cuisines that they like.
At the same time, the interplay of all the people, cultures, and traditions creates a vibe that is truly L.A.- free, friendly, warm, and carefree. This is not something that many other major cities of the world can truly boast of. That is why L.A. is as alluring to people from other parts of the U.S., as it is to people from Latin America or Western Europe. Though the diversity of people calling L.A. home might make you imagine that you would constantly need the help of simultaneously interpreting equipment, the fact of the matter is that the city rocks like no other city in the world.
Despite it being home to the showbiz industry with all its ephemeral attractions, the average L.A. denizen is a welcoming individual who will accept you for who you are. This is the reason why those who have once lived there or even visited can’t seem to forget the place and always want to visit it again and again. People who have never visited L.A. can recognize it because of the fact that it has been so extensively showcased in the media. For people who visit Los Angeles for the first time, they find that it easily surpasses the imagery.
